Summary

Analytical instruments such as gas chromatographs require regular calibration to accurately determine the chemical composition of compounds. During calibration, the gas chromatograph's measurements are compared to calibration standards with known accuracy, and the instrument's values are adjusted accordingly. For gas chromatographs, such standards are gas mixtures with accurately known compositions.

   This application can use the ut series of gas mass flow controllers from Qingdao Xinnovis Microsystem Technology Co., Ltd. Features: Small size, lightweight Up to 12 gas cylinders connected to an equal number of mass flow controllers. Precisely controlled airflow enters the mixing chamber, and the mixture is then sent to the gas chromatograph for calibration.

The ISO 6145-7:2009 standard describes the procedure for preparing calibration gas mixtures using commercially available thermal mass flow controllers. The accuracy of the final gas composition leaving the gas mixer is calculated by dedicated software that takes into account the uncertainty of the gas flow (due to the mass flow controllers) and the uncertainty of the initial cylinder gas composition.

On-site preparation of gas mixtures offers several advantages compared to purchasing cylinders with premixed gas mixtures. For example, premixed gas mixtures have a limited shelf life. The cost of such premixed gas mixtures is quite high, and users are unsure whether the gas concentration is still good or whether the mixture is still homogeneous.

Therefore, users can prepare gas mixtures with very low concentrations of specific compounds themselves. Operators do not have to invest in mixed gas cylinders, greatly improving the flexibility and freedom to calibrate analyzers on their own time.
